On Rome’s most iconic squares, neon-coloured toys are sold on summer evenings. To demonstrate them, street vendors launch the blinking objects into the air, where they hover for a fleeting moment before drifting back towards the ground. Because their flight path can hardly be controlled, some of the propellers fall into the fountains that often stand at the center of Italian piazzas. There, set in motion by the surface of the water, the plastic objects come alive, recounting their attempts at flight.
