I rush to the ferry terminal in Karaköy to catch the boat. The streets are busy and noisy. Nevertheless, with my next step, I notice a crackling sound and feel something break beneath my weight. I am startled—did I just crush a snail? This sensation immediately brings back childhood memories: running through the rain-soaked lawn and streets, accidentally stepping on a snail due to childish recklessness and poor coordination, the sound of the snail’s shell shattering. But here, amidst the crowd, I lift my shoe and see that I have stepped on a piece of cat food. I feel caught and I am surprised to realize that even in this gigantic city, my roots catch up with me.
